Philippians 4:7 The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
In an ever-changing world, things that were familiar or expected can get out of hand. Blame and offense are the most common ways of dealing with this. Unfortunately, they bring neither healing nor breakthrough. I’m reminded of Matthew 6:27, which says, « Can any of you, by worrying, add a single hour to his life? » In the same chapter, we are advised not to worry about anything, but to seek the kingdom of God. In other words, we should seek God’s counsel.
The truth is, I’ve come to realize that it’s impossible not to worry without receiving God’s peace.
When things don’t go our way, it’s easy to overthink, to belittle ourselves and even others. Do not worry about anything, but make your requests known to God in all things by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 4:6. I recognize that this isn’t always easy or quick, but it’s the safest way to go. I know that God’s written word never fails, and that all I have to do is speak it into my life with faith and let God align my reality with his will. I’m aware that he said, « For I know the purposes I have for you, » declares the Lord, « purposes to prosper you and not to harm you, purposes to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.
So, whatever the situation, receiving God’s peace is a plus for me and can be for you too.
